Most glider owners find themselves using abbreviations/slang for some things that can be confusing to beginners. Here are some abbreviations and terms commonly used in glider discussions.

IP---in pouch; refers to joeys in the female's pouch

OOP---out of pouch; refers to joeys that no longer live in the
female's pouch

SM---self-mutilation; the condition of a glider who chews on their
body; very serious and requires immediate attention as can be
life threatening in a short time
HLP---hind leg paralysis; a condition caused by calcium deficiency;
common sign involves dragging of rear legs

ratio/ca:ph ratio---refers to the relation between calcium and
phosphorus; should be 2 calcium to 1 phosphorus (2:1)

marking---territorial action of glider designating its property/family/
territory via scent; done by rubbing chest or head on the object

chest rub---one way a glider marks; looks as if the glider is
dragging its belly on the ground; normal behavior

yogies---yogurt drops; a glider treat

mealies---mealworms; a glider treat

face hug---refers to a glider jumping/gliding to its owner and
landing on their face with all legs spread

pit bull---a tenacious biting behavior; glider will bite and chew, tear
or shake its head

crabbing---one of a glider's vocalizations; sounds like an electric
pencil sharpener
